Did you know Grateful Mike really does have a Lava Lamp in the KING studio?

There are probably plenty of things that DJ's say on the air that you've wondered about over the years. I mention my Lava Lamp is warming up and I really do have one.

When listening to the radio, the 'theatre of the mind' can create lots of images. We use that to transport listeners to other places and make it an experience to turn us on.

To help put me in the mood while I'm listening to all the great rock and roll on KING FM, I like to turn on my Lava lamp in the studio. It takes about 30 minutes to an hour for it to really get bubbling.

Have you ever had a Lava Lamp? They still sell them, surprisingly. I thought by now they would have been recalled because of some sort of safety hazard. My daughter recently purchased one at Spencer's in Frontier Mall. Hard to believe they are still popular.

There is even an official Lava Lamp website. They are definitely a conversation piece and a bit of nostalgia. It's also very relaxing to watch while listening to music, many times it seems as if the blobs are actually moving to the beats in the songs.
