Every state has its own flavors of music and Uproxx.com has somehow figured out which musical act best represents each state and created a list of musical acts that best represent each in the union.  Some were pretty obvious, like Bruce Springsteen for New Jersey and John Denver for Colorado . . . but some were a little weird, like Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament for Montana.

The musicians didn't necessarily have to be from the state, but that's the case for a lot of them. The list seems mostly subjective. They considered stuff like album sales and Grammy wins, but they admit there were "less concrete factors" as well, and they didn't say what those might be. Skipping the other states and getting to the heart of the matter,
Wyoming gets Chris LeDoux as the best representative along with

“LeDoux was born in Mississippi, but his family set up camp in Wyoming when he was in high school. I can say with 100 percent certainty that he is the only person to appear on this list who was not only a professional bull rider, but a member of the Rodeo Hall of Fame. LeDoux recorded 36 albums, the majority of which he released on his own and has sold at least six million copies of them. A big influence on Garth Brooks, LeDoux passed away in 2005.”

I can’t disagree, but there are others to consider here in The Cowboy State. Wyoming music is generally thought of as country or it’s close cousin alternative country. But it is more than that, there’s folk, rock, punk classic rock, bluegrass, blues and other genres.

There are many artists and bands in Wyoming that each carry our flavor into the songs they sing, whatever category. From Cheyenne to Casper, Gillette, Cody, Laramie, Saratoga and more. Here are some others to think about. Western Underground (Chris Ledeoux’s back-up band), Chancey Williams and The Younger Brothers Band, the Sean Curtis Band, Jalan Crossland, Nobel Prize winning chairman of UW economics department and J. Shogren Shanghai’d, Calling The Restless, Beatgrass, The Front, The Ron Brown Band, Neo Nostalgics, Teenage Bottlerocket, Chad Lore, The Patti Fiasco, Righteous Vendetta, Full Blown Mosey….

Who did I leave off?
