It goes pretty much without saying that any rock veteran has seen some weird stuff over the years, but even in the already bizarre context of that lifestyle, it sounds like Smashing Pumpkins co-founder William Patrick Corgan has got many of his peers beat.

As Corgan hinted during a recent visit to The Howard Stern Show, he may have brushed up against the paranormal a time or two — including one particular experience in which he seems to believe he witnessed a person transforming in a way he was reluctant to detail on the air.

"Let’s just say I was with somebody once and I saw a transformation that I can’t explain," Corgan told his host. Vowing he was completely sober at the time, he added, "It’s a really messed-up story. It’s up there with one of the most intense things I’ve ever been through."

Corgan's Stern Show interview, which you can sample a segment from below, also found him reliving a moment when he and his girlfriend both experienced unusual phenomena at the same time. While working on an upcoming book, he said he "hit some weird key and the thing blanked and I lost eight days' worth of work" — and at the same time, his girlfriend had a vision of a young woman resembling Corgan's mother in her 20s. It was all, as Corgan put it, "like this weird ripple in time thing."

Making the rounds to promote his upcoming solo LP Ogilala, Corgan has openly entertained a number of surprising notions — not only regarding glimpses of the other side, but also the truly shocking idea of a potential reunion with his former Smashing Pumpkins bandmates. In the meantime, check out "Aeronaut," the first single from Ogilala, right here.
