Breaking News: Laramie Schools Briefly Locked Down
UPDATE 4:25 pm, Friday: Details have been released by Laramie Police Department regarding Friday's school lockdown.
According to Laramie Police Commander Mitchell Cushman, officers discovered what is believed to be the pre-cursors to a methamphetamine lab in a Laramie residence while investigating another charge. Friday afternoon police discovered that a person, expected to be at the residence was missing, and police also observed evidence that the missing man might be armed.
Police made the call to lock down four or five Laramie schools. Those lockdowns were lifted before the end of the school day and the schools were allowed to dismiss as per usual.
The suspect is still believed to be at large, however law enforcement officials did recover a weapon that it was believed the suspect had been in possession of.
Cmdr. Cushman says the investigation is ongoing and that Laramie Police are working in cooperation with the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation.
According to a phone call placed by KOWB to Albany County School District, local law enforcement asked for the lockdown of at least Laramie High School and Slade Elementary School as a precautionary measure. According to personnel at Albany County School District, law enforcement had been looking for a suspect in the area of the schools.
Schools were cleared for normal dismissal before the end of the school day.
KOWB has no reason to believe, at this time, that this lockdown is related to this morning's incidents in Casper and at Casper College.
We will have more on this story as it develops.
