Cheyenne Police: Lock Your Car
Cheyenne Police Chief Brian Kozak is reminding local residents to lock their cars, especially as the weather warms up.
Kozak says auto burglaries tend to increase during the summer months when more people are out later at night. The chief also says it's important to remove valuables from your vehicle, including such things as laptop computers, money, wallets and especially firearms. He says over half the guns that were stolen in the city last year were taken from unlocked vehicles, adding only a small percentage were ever recovered.
Police say guns are always a valued target for thieves, and leaving them in plain sight in an unlocked vehicle is especially risky.
