Where do you rent your videos?

The final video rental store in Cheyenne, Showtime Video USA, no longer rents films and is closing after selling it's collection.

Showtime Video USA on Dell Range opened in 2003 and stopped renting movies last month. The store is open to sell it's extensive selection of 14,000 DVD's and 7,000 VHS tapes

Consumers now mostly rent from the Redbox kiosks, from subscription services like Netflix or by streaming videos and movies on demand.

In the mid-1980's, I worked at a Music Plus Video store in Pasadena that had an extensive collection of movies. When I came home during the holidays, the only places renting videos in Cheyenne were the convenience stores. Soon, other video rental outlets opened. At one time, Blockbuster and Hollywood Video stores competed for business from both sides of Converse Avenue.

In the past 25 years, video stores have gone from housing the latest in technology to selling formats from a by-gone era from nearly empty buildings. I guess it's appropriate that the Hollywood Video store has become Spirit Halloween.
