Cheyenne’s Water Safe and Water Quality Exceeds Federal Standards [VIDEO]

The City of Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities (BOPU) released the Consumer Confidence Report for Annual Drinking Water Quality for 2013.

Spokesman Clint Bassett says according to the report, Cheyenne’s drinking water is safe and water quality meets or exceeds federal and local drinking water standards. In other words, Cheyenne’s drinking water is better than the drinking water standards established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Bassett says Cheyenne has excellent water sources. Cheyenne’s water comes from mountain streams in the Medicine Bow and Laramie Mountain Ranges and from wells in the High Plains Aquifer. These water sources are protected by multiple agencies, including the EPA, U.S. Forest Service, Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality, Wyoming State Parks, Laramie County Conservation District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the BOPU.

Bassett adds that while Cheyenne enjoys excellent water resources, ultimately, drinking water is safe because BOPU employees protect it and make it safe. Water department crews monitor and protect water quality at water sources, during water treatment, while it is in mains and at homes and businesses.

Bassett says the BOPU’s Water Treatment Division routinely monitors for potential contaminants in the drinking water according to Federal laws.
