The Wyoming Cowboys open up Mountain West Conference play Wednesday night when the University of Nevada-Las Vegas comes to Laramie.

Pokes coach Larry Shyatt says UNLV (9-3) is an athletic, very well coached team that has shown consistent improvement already this season. Shyatt says the Running Rebels recent victory over 8th ranked Arizona is the ''league's signature win" so far this season.. That was also Arizona's (12-1) only loss so far .

Wyoming goes into Wednesday nights game with an 11-2 mark, coming off a December 23 road victory over Montana State. Shyatt says while the Cowboys "may not always be pretty, we are pretty consistent". He does say that although Wyoming has won it's last three games, the pokes free-throw shooting over that span has not been what he would like.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday in Laramie.
