Behind a career high 27 points from Kaitlyn Mileto, the Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team earned their first conference road win, 86-48, over the Air Force Falcons Saturday afternoon in Colorado Springs. A 14-0 run in the first half put the Cowgirls in control, as they won their second straight.

“It was a complete basketball game tonight,” said head coach Joe Legerski. “It was important we get off to a fast start, which we did. I felt like Kaitlyn and Kayla were both good from the perimeter, and Fallon Lewis gave us a good lift off the bench with her points and rebounds. Then we really got the transition game going in the third four minute segment in the half.”

Mileto was 8-12 from the field and 6-9 from beyond the arc. Kayla Woodward followed with 16 points and eight rebounds, while Chaundra Sewell added nine points and a team high nine rebounds. The Cowgirls shot 29-59 (49.2%) from the field, 14-26 (53.8%) in the second half and went 19-26 (73.1%) from the free throw line. They out rebounded the Falcons 47-29 and had 36 points in the paint.

Air Force was led by Camille Thompson with 15 points off the bench. The Falcons shot 19-58 (32.8%) from the field.

With the score 8-5, Wyoming (15-4, 4-2) made their key run of 14-0, which included seven points from Lewis, and extended their lead to 22-5 with 11 minutes left in the half. The Cowgirls held a 40-25 lead at halftime.

After Air Force (2-16, 1-4) got on the board first in the second half, UW responded with a 7-0 run to extend the lead to 47-28. The lead was never in jeopardy after that and they came away with the 86-48 win.

“We talked about the mentality to show up every night be able to play on the glass and rebound which we did tonight. It is how you show up from the beginning of the game and I liked how we had 23 assists on 29 baskets which means we really shared the basketball.”

The Cowgirls will continue conference action on the road as they face the New Mexico Lobos Wednesday, January 30. The game is set for 7:00 p.m. You can listen to Cowgirl basketball on KOWB, as coverage will begin at 6:30 p.m.
