Do You Have The Most Common Job In Wyoming?
Over the years, the “most common jobs” or MCJ, change for each state. For example, Florida’s MCJ is currently Primary School Teacher. In 1996, truck, delivery and tractor drivers. In 1978, Florida’s most common job was Secretary.
Seems the one constant is change. In Hawaii, the most common job has gone from 1978’s Bookkeepers and accounting and auditing clerks to 1996 and Truck, delivery, and tractor drivers and now, their current MCJ is Cooks, variously defined.
But here in Wyoming, The most common job has gone through some changes too. The Cowboy State most common job has shifted from Farm workers to Farmers (owners and tenants) to our mostly current 2014 Truck, delivery and tractor drivers.
1978 | 1996 | 2014 | |
Wyoming | Farm workers | Farmers(owners and tenants) | Truck, delivery, and tractor drivers |
Montana | Farmers(owners and tenants) | Farmers(owners and tenants) | Truck, delivery, and tractor drivers |
Colorado | Secretaries | Truck, delivery, and tractor drivers | Computer software developers |
South Dakota | Farmers (owners and tenants) | Farmers (owners and tenants) | Farm managers, exceptfor horticultural farms |
Planet Money of NPR has the full list. They point out that there are “fewer and fewer farmers: Our map shows the tail end of a century-long trend. Farming technology (everything from tiny seeds to giant harvesters) keeps getting better, which means fewer and fewer people can grow more and more food.”
