Are you doing anything to mark Earth Day?

Today we're celebrating the 41st Earth Day, get out and give some love to our Mother Earth.

Here are some ideas of ways to participate:

-Recycle; take some items to the blue bins or you could use some recycled materials to create a sculpture.

-Clean up trash or litter in your area or at a local park, perhaps paint over any graffiti.

-Take a hike and commune with nature, it's National Park Week through Sunday so you can get free admission to any National Park that usually charges admission.

-Reduce your carbon footprint; as an experiment see how long you can go without driving, using any electricity or turning on the faucet. (Earth Hour was celebrated on March 26, 2011 where everyone around the world was encouraged to turn all their lights out for an hour)

-Watch the wind turbines spin and realize that Wyoming wind is being used to create power.

-Rent an environmentally friendly movie such as Al Gore's Inconvenient Truth or Avatar.

The City of Cheyenne Compost Facility is celebrating Earth Day by giving away single grind wood chips to the public through May 14th. They are open Monday through Saturday from ten till six and Sunday noon until four.

Across the nation Earth Month concerts and festivals are planned, like the Veggie Festival in New York City. First Lady Michele Obama was to take part in a service project at the Fort Dupont Park Activity Center but that Earth Day event was rained out in Washington, D.C.

Earth Day began in 1970 as a grassroots demonstration on behalf of the environment. It was proposed by Senator Gaylord Nelson in 1962 and he is now known as the founder of Earth Day.

See what you can come up with that would be beneficial to the planet.
