F.E. Warren Air Force Base near Cheyenne is receiving significant upgrades in staffing and equipment, according to Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Dale Steenbergen.

Steenbergen says the improvements will eventually include a roughly 400 person increase in staffing, some of whom are already at the base. He says the improvements will also include significant improvements in equipment, including the eventual addition of a new helicopter among other items.

The improvements grew out of concerns by U,S, Department of Defense officials about problems with the nation's nuclear force that were revealed by an investigation into a cheating scandal at several nuclear bases.

The upgrades at F.E. Warren are part of a national effort involving  bases across the country.
