The Cowboy State has its own pop culture references. It has been used a punchline and also the setting for many TV shows. From our favorite sheriff Walt Longmire to Homer Simpson, Wyoming has made it appearance on the television or movies many times.

  • Longmire

Here is to our favorite no nonsense sheriff, Walt Longmire. The entire series takes place in Wyoming. Walt and his deputies tackle murders and even conspiracies all in the Cowboy state.

  • Modern Family "Dude Ranch"

In the season 3 premier of Modern Family, they take a family vacation to a Dude Ranch in Jackson Wyoming. The episode was actually filmed in Jackson as well.

A new website lets you search ever episode of the Simpson called Frantic. The Simpson usually parodies most places (probably for legal reasons,) but there is one brief mention of Wyoming just after the opening credits in Season 15 Episode 2.

Homer: Yum, yum. I think I'd like some whipped cream on my Wyoming.
Lisa: Dad, the word's "desert," and those farmers are suffering.

  • Dog Day Afternoon

It is a short reference, but in Dog Day Afternoon a young Al Pacino ask his fellow bank robber, if he could go to any country where would it be. His partner then thinks for a bit then answers Wyoming.

  • The X-Files

The X-Files has made a visit to Wyoming on a few episodes. In fact, Scully and Mulder had a son (whether by conventional ways or with extra help is unknown,) but the adopted family lived in Wyoming as seen in Season 9 Episode 16 “William.”

The intent roomer mill is talking about William again in the new X-Files reboot. That begs the question will Wyoming make the cut as well?

The Cowboy State was the setting for two episodes in Season 10 Episode 2 & 3 with “Believers Part 2” and “Believers Part 3.”
