Governor Matt Mead, in his opening remarks, to the 3rd Annual Broadband Summit in Cheyenne Tuesday, said the state has come a long way in three years but must continue the momentum.   Mead credited private providers for their work in expanding access to much of the state. He said there are some rural areas of the state that still need to be addressed though.

You know we are not going to be set as a state until we reach every corner of the state. Those are the things we are going to have to solve in the next couple of years is how do we get this kind of speed and capacity as far and as broad as we can.

Flint Waters, Chief Information Officer for the state, talked about the progress of the Unified Network, a 100-gigabit backbone for internet connectivity in the state. Waters said the network is designed to connect and enhance existing broadband infrastructure that provides Internet access to schools and other state resources. So far 29 of the 48 school districts already are hooked up to the Unified Network's high-speed connection.
