Gas prices are finally heading towards some comfortable lows, but what are some other ways that we can put more bucks in our pocket, instead of in the tank?  Today on the Top 5 at 7:45, I'll highlight some savvy ways that we can save on gas as the holidays approach.

  1. Drive Like You Are Sane - Angry driving, rapid acceleration can cost you big bucks at the pump. If you're on the highway, use cruise control when the roads are not wet, icy and slippery.
  2. Buy Discounted Gas Gift Cards - There are times when sites like plasticjungle.com and giftcardgranny.com will sell discounted gas gift cards for gas stations like Shell, Mobil and Gulf.
  3. Use Your Smartphone - AAA Triptix or GasBuddy.com apps will help you to find the cheapest gas in your town.
  4. Time Your Trips To The Pump - During a regular week, you may want to fill up on Wednesday or Thursday before 10 a.m. This is because gas prices rise on Thursdays in anticipation of the weekend travel, and 10 a.m. is when most of your gas station owners make their price changes for the day.
  5. Gas Reward Cards - If you drive a lot, it may seem reasonable for you to get a credit card that rewards you for buying gas. Just make sure you pay it in full every month to avoid going into debt and paying more on the card in interest rates.
