Say one of your family members was diagnosed with diabetes and had to take insulin shots. Would you know how to dispose of syringes and lancets in Cheyenne? That's the question I set out to answer after my pup "Buddha" was diagnosed with the disease and had to have insulin shots twice a day. After a few months we started to have quite a stockpile of sharps containers and didn't know what to do with them.

The Environmental Protection Agency says Improper management of discarded needles and other sharps can pose a health risk to the public and waste workers.

Dennis Pino, Director of the Cheyenne Sanitation/Solid Waste Division said he has had employees get stuck with a needle and have to be taken to the hospital to be tested. He said he has also had employees quit after being stuck with a needle.

Pino says in Cheyenne you can throw your sharps containers filled with used needles in the trash but make sure the needles will not poke through the container and it is tightly sealed. Do not put it in the recycling bin. Pino says they prefer you bring the sharps containers to the the trash transfer station for disposal.
