This is my first week on the job here in Cheyenne and, even though I haven't figured out how to navigate the one way streets downtown, I have learned some interesting things about the Capitol City.  Today, I was told that it is "technically" illegal to take a shower on Wednesdays within the Cheyenne city limits.

According to the website legendsofamerica.com, the urban legend is true. The ordinance is also listed on sites such as dumblaws.com, idiotlaws.com, strangestlaws.com, stupidfunnylaws.com, and omglaws.com.

If showering on Wednesday were, in fact, illegal, it would be just one of many incredibly stupid laws in Wyoming.  For example, it is unlawful for blind men to fly helicopters between the hours of 9am and 6pm.  Using a firearm to fish is also forbidden here in the Equality State.  And, whatever you do, don't get caught drinking a martini inside a sawmill.  You could end up behind bars.

I reached out to the City of Cheyenne Public Information Officer Scott Smith to find out, if indeed, the no shower ordinance was still on the books. After consulting with the city clerk, Smith confidently reassures us that no such law has ever existed in Cheyenne.  Smith says he's not sure how the urban legend began and noted that, while the city has no official stance on the issue, he encourages all residents to bathe frequently.
