Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen is applauding Governor Matt Mead’s proposal to increase state funding for local governments by $20 million over the next biennium.

The governor is proposing to give local governments $175 million over the next two years. Kaysen says that would bring the total amount of state money to Cheyenne to over $5 million, which Kaysen says would be ‘highly beneficial” to the city. The mayor says the proposal is in step with Mead’s belief that “strong local governments make for a strong state”, adding that he agrees with that view.

The Wyoming Association of Municipalities  (WAM) and the Wyoming County Commissioners Association recently wrote letters to state lawmakers in support of the funding proposal, according to the Associated Press. The state legislature will convene for it’s 2014 Budget Session on February 10.
