A spokeswoman for the Wyoming Poison Control Center says with National Poison Prevention Week coming up (March 18-25), now is a great time to consider the potential for accidental poisonings in your home. Joan Macavoy says prescription drugs and even over the counter medications are potential hazards, so it’s important to follow directions closely and know what is in the medications you are taking. She also says it’s important to keep medications out of reach of children, because ”there’s no such thing as a childproof container. Kids can usually get into any bottle in a minute or two”. Macavoy says 100 people a day die in the U-S from accidental poisonings, most commonly from prescription medications. She says that number has tripled since 1990.
