A Rock Springs couple was rescued after being stranded in the remote back country north of Rock Springs on Thursday evening.

Sweetwater County Sheriff Mike Lowell has not released the couple's names but says they got stuck in muddy conditions in the Boar's Tusk area. Fortunately, they were able to call for help on their cell phone.

They gave sheriff's department officials directions and grid coordinates and they were found just before dark. No one was injured in the incident.

But the sheriff is warning people that it is dangerous to travel in the back country under the current wet, muddy conditions. He says even traveling on a regular dirt road is dicey right now, and say going off-road is even worse.

The sheriff says anyone who does make such a trip should have food, water, and extra clothing.
