Terrible, shocking news to report today that we sadly wish was an April Fools prank, but is instead all too real. 21 year-old West Virginia native Shain Gandee, memorable star of MTV's freshman reality series 'Buckwild' was found dead this morning in a vehicle, along with several others identified as his uncle, and an unidentified third man. The cause of death has yet to be reported, but we'll bring continued information on this bizarre, and tragic story inside.

On August 1, 1981, television and music shacked up on a little cable channel called MTV, hosted by a collective of video jockeys or “VJs.” MTV has been through countless iterations and format changes ever since and as it shifted its focus to reality fare like 'Jersey Shore' and 'Teen Mom' in recent years, the VJs became less instrumental to the channel's brand.

Do you remember watching the debut of MTV on August 1, 1981?

It was revolutionary at the time, a TV channel playing nothing but music. From the comments on the You Tube page, a lot of people, including myself, would love the channel to get back to playing all music videos rather than all the reality shows.
