U2 ‘Achtung Baby’ is This Weekend’s ‘Album Side’ on Your Sunday Brunch
Do you own a copy of U2's "Achtung Baby"?
The Irish band is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the release of their seventh studio album in November of 1991. On Halloween, "Achtung Baby" will be reissued in five different formats and a documentary about the making of the record called "From The Sky Down" premiered at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival and was shown earlier this month on television.
The album won a Grammy Award in 1993 for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. (That category name is as long as some of U2's song titles)
Recording sessions for "Achtung Baby" began at Berlin's Hansa Studios just before Germany's reunification in 1990. Most of the recordings were completed in the band's hometown of Dublin in 1991.
‘Pearl Jam Twenty’ Soundtrack Available to Listen to Now
It might say 2011 on your calendar, but this fall, it’s 1991 all over again, what with deluxe reissues of 20-year-old albums from bands including U2, Spin Doctors, and Pearl Jam, whose landmark debut ‘Ten’ was the inspiration for a new documentary from none other than ‘Singles’ and ‘Jerry Maguire’ director Cameron Crowe.
The film, titled ‘Pearl Jam Twenty,’ is getting a hefty double-disc soundtrack that includes live tracks, demos, and assorted rarities from Pearl Jam’s vaults — and although it doesn’t come out until September 20, you can listen to the whole thing now.
U2 to Break Record For Highest-Grossing Tour of All Time
U2 are about to claim the record for the highest-grossing tour in history. After the band's second show at Morumbi Stadium in Sao Paulo, Brazil, the gross for the Irish band's U2 360 world tour will pass the $558 million mark, eclipsing the Rolling Stones' take for their A Bigger Bang tour of 2005-2007. By the time the band wraps up its next North American leg on July 30th in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, the band is projected to make around $700 million in total.
