The Wyoming Cowboys suffered their second loss this season, as they fell 42-21 Saturday night on the road at Texas State. The game was delayed in the second quarter for 3 hours, 28 minutes due to lightning. The Bobcats out-scored UW 35-14 after the delay.

Junior QB Brett Smith connected on an 11-yard score to senior receiver Robert Herron that cut the deficit to 35-21 with 11:12 to go in the game, but UW failed on two fourth down attempts. Texas State would ice it with a final score with 3 seconds left.

Texas State (3-1) scored on its first drive for 7-0 lead. Then, Wyoming went on a nine-play, 86-yard drive and capped it off when Brandon Miller rambled in from 4 yards out to even things up at 7 with 13:15 to go in the half.

The Bobcats responded with a drive down to the Wyoming 37, but Marqueston Huff tallied his first interception of the season at the UW 15. After one offensive play, that’s when the weather delay hit.

After the delay, UW’s second possession ended on Miller’s second rushing touchdown of the night to give the Pokes a 14-7 lead with 3:47 to go in the first half. Texas State answered with a 26-yard TD pass to even things up at 14-all with just 29 seconds to go in the half. They would tack on three straight scores in the second half that opened up a 35-14 edge with 13:11 remaining in the game. Two of those were by Chris Nutall, while Robert Lowe added the other.

The Bobcats ran for 256 yards and five t-d’s, as they compiled 452 yards of total offense. The Cowboys were held to 356 yards offensively.

Smith went 25-of-48 for 292 yards passing with one touchdown and one interception. Herron finished with seven grabs for 94 yards and a score, and Miller led UW with 72 rush yards. Defensively, Huff had 11 tackles, while sophomore Eddie Yarbrough added eight stops.

The Cowboys (3-2) have a bye on their schedule next weekend and will resume action October 12 with their Homecoming game versus New Mexico in Laramie. Kickoff will be at 1:30 p.m. MT.
