There is quite a bit of controversy stirring in Laramie over the weekend. A new slogan was proposed for the school and people are not happy about it.

The slogan is question, according to the Laramie Boomerang is, "The world needs more cowboys."

The Director of Communications for the university spoke out and defended the slogan. She said one of the campaign's goals was to reconstruct and redefine the word "cowboy." The goal is to make the word represent everyone at the University of Wyoming, from the staff, students, faculty and whom ever else is an employee there.

A letter was written to the universities president, Laurie Nichols, in response to the new campaign being proposed. The letter came from the University of Wyoming's Committee on Women and People of Color, also the letter went to the Director of Communications, Chad Baldwin. The letter asked them to "shelve that slogan and find another one that represents the diversity of people and cultures that we have, and want to have, as UW."

There is a marketing firm out of Boulder, Colorado named Victors and Spoils who got paid around $500,000 to develop the controversial slogan for the University of Wyoming.
