All week long on The Tonight Show, host Jimmy Fallon has been talking up Styx‘s 1981 hit, “Too Much Time on My Hands.” Last night (April 29), he capped it off by unveiling a remake of the song’s video which featured his guest on the show, actor Paul Rudd.

In the clip, which is embedded above, Fallon emulates Dennis DeYoung‘s arm garters and “mad scientist meets Chico Marx” style of keyboard-playing, while Rudd seals down the Tommy Shaw part, mugging to the camera and displaying great difficulty at shooting pool in the presence of a beautiful woman. They led into the video by talking about rock concerts they had attended, with Rudd reminding Fallon of the time time they spent in the band.

The day before, Adam Levine and Fallon discussed the song, and the house band, the Roots, picked up the cue to begin playing it. Fallon and Levine then did a brief Russian dance to it. Styx were flattered by the attention. Yesterday, they linked to the video of Fallon and Levine on their Facebook page with the message, “We’re so diggin this.” They have not yet issued a statement on the remake.

Written by Shaw, “Too Much Time on My Hands” was the second single from Styx’s blockbuster Paradise Theatre album. The song reached No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 2 on the Top Rock Tracks chart. Paradise Theatre, Styx’s only No. 1 album, also featured the hits “The Best of Times,” “Nothing Ever Goes As Planned” and “Rockin’ the Paradise.”
