Good fried chicken is hard to find in Cheyenne. Go anywhere in Wyoming, and you'll find great chicken fried steak, but besides fast food, whatever happened to just fried chicken in restaurants?

I just found out Culver’s discontinued their fabulous fried chicken. I loved it not greasy and never put under a heat lamp. Not that it was a lot healthier than other fried chicken, but wasn't as unhealthy. It was just a rare treat. A long time ago I eliminated all other fast food fried chicken.

Look on the internet for “Cheyenne’s best restaurant for fried chicken.” You'll see menus with chicken cordon blue, chicken marsala, chicken anything but a nicely fried piece of the real poultry. It seems these days there are just chicken wings, chicken strips, chicken nuggets, chicken tenders, Crispy Honey-chipotle Chicken Crispers at Chili’s, and Red Lobster has full chicken breast strips, but I say if chicken comes with choice of honey mustard or barbecue, you know what it's really not - Fried Chicken.

Shari’s Restaurant on Dell Range does have something that sounds pretty close to it because of how it’s listed on the menu, “Southern Fried Chicken Strips,” but again, that is not taken straight from the pollo, itself.

I think possibly the best thing on the menu at Texas Roadhouse is the "Oven Roasted Half-Chicken," but other than that, where is fried chicken the specialty it used to be? No doubt there are more locations that have it, or will make it for you, whether or not it’s on the menu, but search it online as just Fried Chicken. It won’t come up as that.

In one search, 51 dishes were found, but only one is actual Fried Chicken – only one! Old Country Buffet is uhhh, a buffet. Oops, it was! They no longer exist now. (Darn internet.) Maybe Old Country here is like fried chicken, itself - gone out of style.

I did drool over one blog on “The South’s Best Places for Southern Fried Chicken” – all places in the south. So help a guy out if you know a Cheyenne secret. Just click the comment icon on the lower right.
