How can you tell who the smartest guy in the room is? Pardon this cliche'

From time to time we all must battle what is a real syndrome. The Smartest Guy In The Room Syndrome. These people usually don't care what you have to say and really want to spend all their time making sure you hear what they are saying. They tend to spin long and tedious dialogues, wordy and colorful emails that don't get to the point and make personal and professional communications hard.

I became aware of this term several years ago working in broadcasting. They used it describe a radio programmer and said "he thinks he's the smartest guy in the room". It is almost self descriptive. I am not the smartest guy in the room and never claim to be. I might be the most creative, because it's a balance of art and science. Right brain versus left brain. There is always someone who is "smarter" and if they are cool about it and mentor you, then you have a bonus.
