Why Pilots Come To Wyoming To Learn High Wind Landings [VIDEOS]
There is a good reason that new pilots and even new airplanes come to Cheyenne Wyoming on the windiest days—to test and to learn.
The most recent landing of a 787-10 Dreamliner was both a test of the airplane by the Boeing Corporation and a lesson for the pilots on that the 787 handles in extreme conditions. What they learned will be passed on to future 787 pilots.
Here is our salute to the experienced pilots who bring those planes down in what seems like impossible conditions.
Extreme winds do not just happen in Wyoming. That is why they come here to test.
Below are the five scary, white-knuckle landings, in airliner history.
Airbus A380 crosswind landing was extremely hard and extraordinary. At first it looked like a pretty normal crosswind approach but after touchdown, the pilots tried to align with the runway.
It's really impressive to see how the skilled pilots dealt with crosswinds during the severe storm.
Landing sideways in snow and ice.
When the landing is not looking good a pilot will pull up and go around for another try.
1:57 into the video see a beautiful landing when the wind was very strong!! Civil aviation authority in Portugal, ( ANAC) does not allow by law the copilot to land and take off in Madeira!!
