Wyo. Arts Center, Musician, Instructor Honored

An arts center, a country musician and a retired community college instructor will receive this year’s Wyoming Governor’s Arts Awards.

The Wyoming Department of State Parks and Cultural Resources announced the awards Tuesday, and the awards will be presented in Cheyenne on Feb. 8.

One recipient is the Advocacy for Visual Arts Center in Gillette, which offers classes in a variety of art media.  ”We provide classes for all levels and all ages,” says AVA executive director Ann Edwards.  ”We have the only outdoor high-fire kiln in the state. We also have great artwork for sale.”  More information on the AVA Center is available on their website.

Retired Casper College instructor Lynn Munns is being recognized for his contributions to arts education over his career.  According to a biography on the Red Lodge Clay Center website, Munns has served on the Wyoming Arts Council board, the Nicolaysen Art Museum board, the Wyoming Advocates for Cultural Development, the Western States Arts Foundation, as well as serving as the Chair for the Casper College Division of Fine Arts.

“Alt country” music artist Jalan Crossland of Ten Sleep is also being honored.  A popular musician around the state, and has been touring both solo and with a band for ten years.  According to Crossland’s website, has recently been touring solo in conjunction with the release of his solo album Portrait of a Fish.
