Wyoming athletes didn’t win any medals at the London Olympics, but a Colorado swimmer has won several.

Missy Franklin from Aurora, set a world record in the 200 meter backstroke on Friday, August 3, and claimed the gold medal. It was her third gold and fourth medal total of the London Games.

Jennifer Nichols, the Olympic archer from Cheyenne, defeated a competitor from India on Tuesday, July 31, and then lost to an archer from Mongolia, 6-4, in the women’s individual archery competition.

Another Wyomingite, Brett Newlin of Riverton, almost picked up a medal. He’s a member of the U.S. eight-man rowing team. In the finals on Wednesday, August 1, the U.S. team finished fourth with a time of 5 minutes, 51.48 seconds. Britain edged out the U.S. for the Bronze medal with a time of 5 minutes, 51.18 seconds. Canada picked up the silver and Germany won the gold medal.
