Get ready, Cheyenne! One of the best flavor festivals in the region returns to the Magic City of the Plains in September. The Cheyenne Greek Festival makes its annual return to our fair city next month...and I can already hear my diet plans go out the window.

Cheyenne Greek Festival Returns to Cheyenne for 2023

The yearly celebration of Greek culture and cuisine is put on by the Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Cheyenne. It's considered a September tradition in my house. This year's festival kicks off September 15 at its traditional location of Frontier Park's Exhibition Hall. The festival runs for two days (September 15 thru September 16) and features a mouthwatering assortment of eats you won't want to miss.

Greek Festival Preview: Eats, Treats, and Entertainment

You are missing out if you've never been to the Cheyenne Greek Festival! The fest celebrates all things Greek, with a menu of delicious Mediterranean entrees and a veritable feast of dessert items.

The Greek Fest is, essentially, a delicious buffet of Greecian fare. You'll join the line of hungry festival goers, pick out your meal items, and pay at the end of the line. Menu items typically include things like:

• Gyros: Beef or the more traditional lamb meat, served with Tziki sauce, tomato, and lettuce on pita bread. Fun fact: Pita was invented over 10,000 years ago!
• Kalamari: Deep-fried squid. It's pretty tasty!
• Spanakopita: A savory pie made of flaky filo dough, spinach, and feta.
• Baklava: Heaven on earth. Layers of flaky pastry, honey, and chopped nuts.
• Loukomadies: The Greek Donut - usually covered in delicious honey.
• Kataifi: Crispy pastries made with almond syrup.

The festival usually imports Greek beer for the event, too. I tried a bottle last year, and honestly, I loved it. Not too hoppy, crisp, and refreshing!

In addition to a menu that tantalizes your tastebuds, the Greek Festival also features cultural music displays, dancing, and a few vendor booths selling Greek wares.

How much money should you bring for the festival? Depends on your appetite. Last year, I spent about $40 on a couple of gyros, drinks, and many desserts.
