The buzz around the 2017 Solar Eclipse will bring thousands of people to central Wyoming to view this celestial event.  But what is there to do while waiting for that event to actually take place?  Here are several ideas that we'd like to recommend.

- TACKLE the TRAILS - Casper has a great hike and bike trail called the Platte River Parkway that runs throughout much of the city.  In addition to the city trail, there are also great hikes near by and up on Casper Mountain.  Be sure to check out the hike to the Garden Creek falls in Rotary Park for a quick and easy outing.  Or make the short drive up on top of Casper Mountain and hike one of the dozens of trails including the Lions Club Braille Trail, Eadsville Trail and others for a scenic outing and escape the summer heat in the valley below.

- PLAY a ROUND - Casper has a great municipal golf course that features 27 holes playable in 3 different 9 hole courses that is great for all levels of play.  Want a bigger challenge, take on the 18 holes (14 with water) at Three Crowns Golf Course, but be sure to take along a few extra golf balls.

- Float the Day Away - grab an inner tube, kayak or raft and float the cool waters of the North Platte River through town.  Or take them to Alcova or Pathfinder Reservoir and enjoy a picnic and relax around the lake.

- Drop a Hook - Those same cool waters in and around Casper are easily some of the best fishing spots in the entire state of Wyoming.  The North Platte River is a Blue Ribbon trout stream full of Rainbow and Brown Trout.  While Alcova and Pathfinder Reservoir offer trout in addition to walleye and other species.

- Travel Back in Time - Casper has over a dozen museums and interactive learning opportunities.  From Fort Caspar Museum and Historic Site to the National Historic Trails and Interpretive Center to the Nicolaysen Art Museum and Werner Wildlife Museum, Casper's museums offer something for everyone in the family.  Of course while you're waiting for the big solar eclipse event, I would think a trip to the Science Zone to see their new lunar exhibit and to the Casper Planetarium are a must!!  Also, just a short drive from Casper, Independence Rock and Hell's Half Acre are fun quick trips for the entire family.
