Albany County Sheriff Dave O'Malley says an email containing threats against Wyoming cities, schools, state buildings and Cheyenne Regional Airport has been vetted and deemed not credible.

The Natrona County School District put out a news release saying the email was a hoax.

Schools and state buildings across Wyoming took extra precautions Thursday after the Wyoming Office of Homeland Security forwarded an email and memo to local authorities.

The email, sent anonymously, contained a bomb threat against Wyoming cities, schools, state buildings and Cheyenne Regional Airport. Security officials responded to the airport.

Schools within Sweetwater County School District No. 1 were under lockout procedures, according to wyo4news.com.

Albany County schools are on heightened alert, according to Operations Director Stuart Nelson.

"We're not going to go on lockdown or anything," said Nelson, adding that exterior security and usual protocols will be maintained.

University of Wyoming spokesman Chad Baldwin said anyone who notices unattended bags or other suspicious objects or activity on the UW campus should alert the UW Police Department.

"There is no specific threat to UW, but we are being extremely vigilant," Baldwin said.

Laramie County Community College's Albany County Campus is on heightened alert, but all classes and activities are continuing as scheduled.

All scheduled classes and on-campus activities at Eastern Wyoming College were cancelled and the school closed for the day.
