The Wyoming Supreme Court has ordered that Cheyenne Attorney Ronald G. Pretty be suspended from practicing law for 90 days starting on May 11.

According to a news release from the Wyoming State Bar, the suspension grew out of Pretty's conduct in drafting a will for an elderly woman who had named her daughter (who was also Pretty's client) as an executrix and a beneficiary. Pretty, meanwhile, was named as the elderly woman's lawyer and alternate executor.

The release says Pretty took those actions even though he knew the older woman was the ward of the Wyoming Guardianship Corporation [WGC].

According to the release, Pretty took the action despite the fact that in the older woman's guardianship hearing, the district court had denied his motion to require the WGC to draft a new will.

The release from the bar association goes on to say:

''Pretty stipulated that his conduct violated Rules 1.7 (conflict of interest), 3.4(b) (duty to comply with court order) and 8.4(d) (conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice) of the Wyoming Rules of Professional Conduct.  Pretty agreed to the suspension, which was recommended to the Supreme Court by a Review Panel of the Board of Professional Responsibility of the Wyoming State Bar.  Pretty was ordered to pay an administrative fee in the amount of $750.00 and costs of $50.00 to the Wyoming State Bar.''
