Cheyenne Drinking Water Has Less Fluoride Than Usual

There is a little less fluoride in Cheyenne's drinking water these days, according to a release from the Board Of Public Utilities [BOPU].

The release says fluoride in the water supply is normally around 0.7 milligrams per liter [mg/L] but right now is at about 0.5 mg/L. Fluoride in the Cheyenne water supply is both naturally occurring in local water sources and added as a supplement.

While the naturally occurring fluoride is present at its normal levels, the supplemental fluoride is not being added right now because the BOPU has not been able to obtain the raw minerals needed to add the mineral into the water supply.

Fluoride is added to the water to prevent tooth decay, but the BOPU release says the lower levels don't present any kind of health hazard other than the water possibly offering less protection against tooth decay.
