Cheyenne Regional Medical Center has become the first hospital in Wyoming to implant a small monitoring sensor that may help some heart failure patients, according to a release from the hospital.

CRMC spokeswoman Kathy Baker says the CardioMEMs HF monitoring system features a wireless sensor that is placed in a patient's pulmonary artery [PA] to measure the artery pressure.

Increased PA pressure often happens before weight and blood pressure changes, which can be signs of worsening heart failure.

The sensor is powered by radio frequency energy and doesn't need batteries. It is designed to last a lifetime, according to the release.
