Bloomberg Cities has named Cheyenne Mayor Marian Orr one of 10 female mayors to watch.

Orr, who was sworn in as Cheyenne's first female mayor in Jan. 2017, was cited for her innovative approach to removing blight in the capital city.

"Marian Orr pledged to focus on the basics -- fix streets, improve public safety, and clean up blight," the organization said in an announcement Friday.

"It was her focus on blight that spurred an idea that propelled Cheyenne into the field of 35 Champion Cities in the Bloomberg Philanthropies Mayors Challenge: to fill vacant downtown commercial spaces by creating a Tinder-like matchmaking service for entrepreneurs and landlords.”

Orr, who's joined by mayors from Charlotte, NC; Seattle, WA; Washington, DC; Fort Worth, TX; Baltimore, MD; Albany, NY; Atlanta, GA; Salt Lake City, UT; and Gary, IN, says she's honored to have made the list.

"To be included in the same group as these leaders is humbling," said Orr.  "I’m thrilled our strategies to re-energize and improve our city are getting positive national attention."
