Children Left In Greeley Hotel Room For 5 Days, Parents Arrested
After leaving their 5 children unattended in a Greeley hotel room for five days, two parents are now facing multiple child abuse charges.
Officers from the Greeley Police Department first responded to a call about a possible child abuse case around 10:45 a.m. on Monday, July 26 at the Clarion Hotel in Greeley - according to the Greeley Tribune.
The call reportedly came in from an adult who was not located on the scene.
The caller told police her five younger siblings were left unsupervised and alone in a hotel room for several days while their parents were gone at an unknown location, as per arrest records.
Greeley Police said the children involved in the incident ranged in ages from 4 to 16 years.
Once officers arrived on scene at the Greeley Clarion Hotel, located at 701 8th St., they took each of the children into protective custody. The children were then temporarily placed with the caller and her adoptive family, according to records via the Greeley Police Department.
As for the children's parents - they were reportedly later found in the hotel parking lot and identified as 34-year-old Brooke Benavente and 37-year-old Victor Benavente. Both parents were booked into the Weld County Jail as a result of the incident.
Both Brooke and Victor Benavente are facing five counts of child abuse each, according to Greeley Police.
In addition, Victor Benavente is also facing a charge for violating a restraining order, as he was prohibited from being around Brooke.
The Benavente’s have a pre-trial conference set for 2 p.m. on August 6.
