
Cowboys Lose Season Opener
Despite a late comeback attempt, the Wyoming Cowboy football team lost a hard-fought contest Saturday to 15th-ranked Texas on Saturday, 37-17.
Wyoming (0-1 overall) held an early 9-7 lead over the Longhorns (1-0 overall), but were outscored 30-8 the rest of the way in the 2012 season opener for both teams. UW junior wide receiver Robert Herron had a stellar season opener, as he got past the Texas defense for five catches for 173 yards and two touchdowns. Herron’s yardage total was a career high for the fleet-footed receiver. Wyoming sophomore quarterback Brett Smith had a nice outing as well, going 16-for-28 for 276 yards and two touchdowns. He also threw two interceptions. Defensively, senior linebacker Korey Jones had a career-high 13 tackles, while sophomore cornerback Blair Burns had eight stops and two pass breakups.
