Dairy Queen Cancels Free Cone Day
The NoCo Virus Tracker articles are made possible by our partner, the Keep NoCo Open campaign that reminds citizens to wear a mask, wash your hands, physically distance and support local as Northern Colorado recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.
I scream, you scream, we all scream that we are not getting free ice cream. Dairy Queen has announced that they will not be doing their free cone day in 2021.
According to a Facebook post on Dairy Queen's page, the company has said "As spring approaches, we all look forward to Free Cone Day, an event that attracts long lines at our restaurants. Given the state of COVID-19, we've made the difficult decision to cancel this year's event with our safety and the safety of our crew members in mind. We look forward to bringing back Free Cone Day in 2022 and celebrating our fans in a sweet way. From all of us at DQ, thank you for understanding."
The announcement on the Facebook page has drawn criticism from some users, while others have been defending Dairy Queen's decision. Over 1,600 comments have been posted on the announcement. Many commenters are saying "just pass them through the drive-thru window." Others, coming to the defense of the decision, say "The amount of people complaining about not getting a free item because Dairy Queen wants to stay safe is mind blowing. Grow up."
Free ice cream, apparently, is a very polarizing topic in 2021. I, for one, will be one of those who will just grab myself a cheap cone when the temperatures in Northern Colorado start to climb.
