Salem Media has terminated a radio talk show host who made controversial remarks about the congressional impeachment hearings on his show Tuesday. Chuck Bonniwell, co-host of the "Chuck and Julie Show" on News/Talk 710 KNUS in Denver, wished for "a nice school shooting to interrupt the monotony" of the "never-ending impeachment", according to the Colorado Times Recorder.

After Bonniwell's co-host Julie Hayden quickly disavowed the comment on-air, Bonniwell backtracked, saying he was only referring to school shootings where "no one would be hurt".

The station responded to the controversy with an official statement on their website yesterday.

"Given the history of school violence that has plagued our community, 710 KNUS confirms that an inappropriate comment was made on the Chuck & Julie show by co-host Chuck Bonniwell.  A programming decision was made to end the program immediately."

Bonniwell, who also published the Cherry Creek/Glendale Chronicle, has yet to issue an official statement. The conservative commentator is no stranger to controversy. He was criticized last year for suggesting that Colorado Governor Jared Polis was part of a "gay mafia".
