Discolored Water Reported in Cheyenne

A spokeswoman for the Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities [BOPU] says discolored water reported in the Buffalo Ridge area is safe to drink.

Dena Egenhoff says BOPU crews discovered a valve on a water main was closed and reopened the valve. She says the caused a change in water pressure, which stirred up sediment and dislodged corrosion materials. The sediment was pushed through the water mains, causing discolored water in the Buffalo Ridge area.

While the water is safe to drink, Egenhoff says customers who have discolored water should avoid using hot water or doing laundry to prevent sediment and minerals from being drawn into water heaters or onto clothes.

BOPU Director of the Board Brad Brooks says the board apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the discolored water.
