With this week's estimated Powerball jackpot now approaching $1.4 billion, and growing, here's an interesting question. If someone from Cheyenne won the drawing, could they afford to buy the entire city? Surprisingly, the answer is no.

According the Laramie County Assessor Kenneth Guille, the 2015 value of Cheyenne's combined residential, commercial and agricultural properties is estimated at $5,993,770,292.

Which means, if you won the $1.4 billion jackpot, you could conceivably purchase roughly 24 percent of the Cheyenne's assets.

A better option could be to invest a professional sports franchise. Even with $1.4 billion, you couldn't afford to buy the Denver Broncos, who are valued at $1.94 billion. However, you could buy the Denver Nuggets who, according to a recent Forbes study, are valued at $855 million.
