Tyler Robinson Arrested As Suspect In Activist’s Shooting Death
NBC in a breaking news announcement reports that officials have identified the suspect accused of shooting and killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox said at a press conference on Friday morning that investigators arrested and identified the 22-year-old Utah resident Tyler Robinson after analyzing surveillance footage.
"We got him," Cox said, standing with FBI Director Kash Patel and other law enforcement officials. Robinson is expected to be charged with aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury and obstruction of justice, according to a probable cause affidavit.
“Over the last 48 hours, I have been as angry as I have ever been. As sad as I have ever been,” Utah Governor Spencer Cox said during a press conference, becoming visibly emotional. “But it was Charlie’s words that pulled me back.”
Cox quoted Kirk as saying “When people stop talking, that’s when you get violence”.
Cox said, “You are inheriting a country where politics feels like rage. But you can choose a different path… embrace differences and have those hard conversations... Words are not violence. Violence is violence.”
NBC reported that authorities on Thursday said they recovered a 'high-powered, bolt-action rifle' in a wooded area near campus.
Inscriptions engraved on the rifle had the lyrics to the Italian folk song “Bella Ciao." Another read “Hey fascists! Catch!” with an up arrow, a right arrow and three down arrows. A third stated, "If you read this, you are gay LMAO.”
The governor said that investigators also saw Robinson in surveillance from the university where Kirk was killed on Wednesday.
