What to Expect for Northern Colorado Express Line Toll Prices

For years, we have endured what seems like endless construction on Interstate 25 in Northern Colorado for the addition of the Northern Colorado Express Lanes. This stretch of road on Interstate 25 starts in Berthoud, going north into Fort Collins, and ends just past Prospect Road.

Free Period for I-25 Express Lanes Is Ending

While the express lanes in the northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 25 have been operational for quite a few months, the period of free travel in these lanes will soon come to an end.

On April 7, 2026, fees to use the Northern Colorado Express Lanes on Interstate 25 will be introduced, and they won't be cheap to use. Of course, as it is with all of the toll lanes in the state of Colorado, the fees will depend on the time of day you choose to use these express lanes.

According to the Coloradoan, toll fees are broken down into three sections on express lanes in either the north or southbound lanes, which could cost up to nearly $10 per section, one way. This dollar amount will be for those who do not have an ExpressToll transponder and use a license plate toll.

If you are like me, and sometimes you just want to bypass all of the traffic, you choose to spend a couple of dollars to get past the mess. I do not use the toll lanes regularly, but it is nice to be able to when time is of the essence.

Here is what you can expect to pay when it comes to tolls on the Northern Colorado Express Lanes. Each section is broken down into three segments for both north and southbound lanes.

Southbound Interstate 25 Toll Rates

Prospect Road Exit:

• 11 a.m. to 6 a.m.: Express Toll ($1) - License Plate Toll ($2)
• 6 a.m. to 7 a.m.: Express Toll ($1.50) - License Plate Toll ($3)
• 7 a.m. to 8 a.m.: Express Toll ($2.70) - License Plate Toll ($5.40)
• 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.: Express Toll ($3.45) - License Plate Toll ($6.90)

Dynamic Pricing Could Change These Rates

These prices are all based on the time of day and will be in effect for several months while CDOT collects data to create a dynamic pricing algorithm. Once this algorithm is in place, the price of the tolls will adjust to traffic volumes.
