Cheyenne Man Gets 4.25 Years in Prison for Fentanyl Trafficking

A 30-year-old Cheyenne man has been sentenced to 4.25 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, the United States Attorney's Office announced Monday.

According to court documents, Cheyenne police were called to a report of a suspected trespasser asleep in a vehicle at Capitol City Storage on Oct. 25, 2022, and arrived to find Derek Ascherin asleep in a Honda sedan.

Police found Ascherin in possession of approximately 17 grams of methamphetamine and 82 fentanyl pills and arrested him for being under the influence of a controlled substance.

In addition to the 4.25-year sentence, Ascherin was also ordered to pay $500 in community restitution and a $100 special assessment.

Ascherin will be subject to three years of supervised release once he is released from prison.
