Burns Woman Busted for Drugs After Caught Speeding
A 32-year-old Burns woman is facing felony drug charges following a traffic stop in south Cheyenne.
According to a booking sheet, Alissa Jean Garcia was stopped at mile marker 3 on Wyoming 212 (College Drive) on Friday, Sept. 13 after a Wyoming Highway Patrol sergeant clocked her doing 38 mph in a posted 30 mph zone.
The sergeant says when he informed Garcia and her two passengers as to why he pulled them over, Garcia told him she thought the speed limit was 40 mph.
Traffic Stop Leads to Felony Drug Charges
The sergeant says there were open alcohol containers sitting in the center console, so he had all three occupants get out of the van so he could conduct a probable cause search for more open containers.
While searching the van, the sergeant reportedly found what he believed to be drug rig kits and requested a K-9.
Cheyenne Police Officer Sweet and his K-9 partner Dutch arrived on the scene, and Dutch alerted on the van.
K-9 Sniff Leads to Meth
A probable cause search was conducted and inside a pink case that was reportedly sitting behind Garcia was a used syringe, a bag of methamphetamine with red dice on the baggie, an eyelash cleaning brush utilized to clean fake eyelashes, a phone, ChapStick, and a pink Sharpie.
The sergeant says Garcia was the only person inside the van who had fake eyelashes applied.
After placing Garcia in handcuffs, the sergeant says he searched the cage that she had been sitting in and found a bag of marijuana stashed under the seat, which Garcia later admitted to being hers.
The sergeant then reportedly searched Garcia but didn't find anything, and advised her that if she took anything into the jail she'd be charged with a felony, to which she replied she didn't have anything else.
Garcia's passengers were then released from the scene and Garcia was taken to the Laramie County Detention Center.
More Meth
The sergeant says when he removed Garcia from the cage and looked in the floorboard, he found two baggies of methamphetamine that she had stashed during transport.
He says the baggies had red dice on them just like the baggie found in the pink case.
While in the booking area, Garcia reportedly tried to hide two more baggies of methamphetamine with red dice on them under the bench she was sitting on.
After locating the two baggies of methamphetamine, the sergeant says Garcia, who'd been instructed by deputies to go into the restroom and change, was removed from the restroom.
He says there was a clear bag stuffed under the lip of the toilet that she was using and toilet paper with methamphetamine inside of it in the toilet.
Garcia Charged With 2 Felonies, 2 Misdemeanors
Garcia was subsequently charged with felony possession of methamphetamine, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, misdemeanor interference with a peace officer - no injury, and felony taking a controlled substance into jail.
Garcia made her initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court on Monday, Sept. 16, during which her bond was set at $5,000 cash and her preliminary hearing was scheduled for Friday, Sept. 20 at 11 a.m.
Please remember that all suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
