
Cheyenne Felon Gets 37 Months in Federal Prison for Having Gun
A Cheyenne man has been sentenced to 37 months in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm, the United States Attorney's Office announced Tuesday.
According to booking sheets, 62-year-old Patrick Michael Cowan was arrested on Sept. 3, 2024, after police pulled him over in a black 2012 Dodge Ram with Laramie County plates that they say had been reported stolen to them on Aug. 27, 2024.

Stolen Vehicle Stop Leads to Gun, Meth
Police say Cowan had a loaded Ruger handgun on the front passenger seat, even though he had multiple felony convictions and was prohibited from possessing a firearm.
Police say a search of the pickup also revealed 5.23 grams of methamphetamine.
Police say Cowan told them he was unaware the pickup was stolen, and said he paid $2,000 for it a few days prior.
Cowan was subsequently charged with felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor felon in possession of a firearm.
Cowan Arrested on Federal Warrant
On Sept. 30, 2024, Cowan was taken into custody on a federal warrant after detectives saw him driving and performed a high-risk traffic stop.
Cowan waived indictment and pled guilty to an Information on Nov. 12, 2024, and U.S. District Court Judge Kelly H. Rankin imposed the sentence on Jan. 31, in Cheyenne.
Cowan will be subject to three years of supervised release once he's released from prison.
