8:47 P.M. UPDATE:

Black Hills Energy spokeswoman Laurie Farkas says technicians will remain on the scene tonight in order to safely make repairs to the damaged gas line.

She says motorists and pedestrians should anticipate ongoing travel impacts in the area, and allow extra time for their morning commute, or consider an alternate route.

Cheyenne police are asking folks to avoid the area of Ridge Road and East Pershing Boulevard after a gas line was damaged.

Public Information Officer Alex Farkas says the entire intersection has been closed to traffic and officers are currently working to evacuate buildings in the surrounding area.

According to Black Hills Energy, a third party struck the line around 2:45 p.m.

The utility says technicians are currently working to repair the line, but it's unknown how long the fix might take.
