Mine Could Create Hundreds Of Jobs

We asked Jason Begger of the company that is proposing the project about the number of jobs the mine would create. He told us via email "in a nutshell there'd be 255 direct jobs from the operations phase and an estimated 507 direct, indirect and induced jobs. Total estimated jobs for the construction phase would be 338."

He also wrote that a feasibility study on the project which is underway "will contain sufficient data on economics and costs to present to banks and other financiers to obtain the approximately $300 million in initial capital that's estimated to be needed to construct the mine."

He added that is the financing is obtained it's possible that construction on the mine could begin in the spring of 2026. He says the work would take about 18 months, allowing mining operations to start in 2028. Begger says based on estimates of the available ore, it's believed that mining at the site could continue for about a decade.

In regard to the mining operation itself, Begger wrote "The mine has an estimated 1 million ounces of gold and 260 million pounds of copper, however not all of the metals will be recovered since no technology can capture 100% of the resource. The company is exploring new processing methods that would capture higher amounts, but it's widely expected that 70% of the gold and 80% of the copper will be recovered. The mine will produce a gold and copper concentrate that looks similar to graphite powder, which will be shipped to an existing smelter to be refined into usable metals. Approximately five semi trucks a day of concentrate will be produced."
